Lynette spent her first two years living exclusively in a kennel with a young male dog. Raised in complete isolation, the beautiful dog was never allowed to experience what the world had to offer. The consequences of this confined upbringing are exactly as one would imagine: As soon as Lynette leaves the animal shelter, she is overwhelmed by the impressions that flood her. Even the wind blowing in her face is overwhelming.

But even after a rehoming, in which great efforts were made for Lynette's well-being, old patterns repeatedly reasserted themselves. The rehoming ultimately had to be terminated after two years due to personal circumstances, and so Lynette is finally back with us. This new beginning wasn't easy for her either; calmness is still a distant state for this energetic lady.

Now she's learning, step by step, how to deal with the world's stimuli. Lynette and the people who accompany her have a long, difficult road ahead of her. Once she understands how to orient herself towards people in agitated situations, training should be a little easier for her. The damage from deprivation is deep-seated and has Lynette firmly in its grip. Calmness, walking on a leash, and commands that go beyond "down" are new to the young lady, but with lots of practice and patience, she'll master them too.

Lynette is a true treasure and really enjoys being petted, which also helps her catch her breath. Collecting treats is one of this pretty dog's favorite daily activities and offers a calming contrast to the mentally demanding training.

Lynette also seems to thrive in dog sledding. When motivated, she runs ahead well without getting too excited or becoming "headless." All her worries seem to be forgotten. She can easily ignore stimuli that would otherwise worry her and concentrate fully on her work. The exercise strengthens not only her muscles but also her mind. She learns that her worries are unfounded and that the big wide world also has many beautiful things to offer.

This is where our training comes in. We want to give Lynette the security she needs and build her self-confidence so she can better process environmental stimuli outside of her familiar four walls.

All of this will take a lot of time and patience, but the first small successes Lynette can achieve toward serenity are reward enough for the strenuous training. A home of her own with permanent caregivers who provide support would also help her leave her chaotic past behind and gain new, happy experiences.
